Research (Ion Microprobe)

The research program of CCIM focuses on deciphering the processes, conditions, and timing of formation of minerals, as revealed in their micro-scale isotope chemistry. Minerals such as diamond, zircon, dolomite, and pyrite form under diverse geological conditions; they commonly possess internally complex isotopic patterns that necessitate the use of micro-analytical techniques . We emphasize the measurement of light stable isotope ratios, especially 13C/12C and 18O/16O, and have active methods development programs to expand the range of minerals and isotope systems in research areas in demand by our collaborators.  See the Services tab for a list of available techniques.  Our recent publications illustrate the range and types of ion-probe research.
